Case Study: Georgia Pacific Center - Atlanta, Georgia

Product

Alpha is More Than a Floodlight … it is a revolutionary design that provides more than just architectural lighting. For safety, security, outdoor storage, car lots, and recreational sports activities, the Alpha Flood is the energy and maintenance efficient LED powered flood light to specify. Whether pole mounted, wall mounted or base plate mounted, the Alpha eliminates spill light and light trespass making it an ideal instrument for lighting commercial facilities in residential and urban settings. Additionally, the Alpha can be specified for aiming either below horizontal or above horizontal. The 6 standard NEMA beam spread options allow you to place light where you want it. Alpha IS precise. Alpha IS versatile.

Project Summary

An iconic fixture in Atlanta’s skyline, the Georgia-Pacific building had gone dark for nearly seven years at night because its lighting system was energy inefficient. In addition, the building’s manager needed a lighting solution to help the property get closer to its goal of reducing energy consumption by 20 percent.

Thanks to Beacon Products and its revolutionary Alpha LED product, the building is now more energy efficient and cost-effectively illuminated.

Ian Hughes, senior vice president of JLL, noted that the new Beacon LED lighting dramatically cut energy consumption by 75 percent and slashed costs too – from approximately $55 to $14 a day.

The energy reductions and savings produced by new efficient technology such as the Beacon LED lighting, gave us a cost effective way to re-illuminate the iconic Georgia-Pacific Center while continuing to meet our sustainability goals.

Benefits

Beacon Alpha Flood Lighting at Georgia Pacific CenterBeacon Products replaced the building’s inefficient 1000-watt and 400-watt metal halide bulbs with modern, efficient Beacon Products Alpha LED Floods. The retrofit incorporated 60 Alpha LED flood lights, including 8 ALU-36NB-90W-6x6, 22 ALU-60NB-136W-6x6, 27 ALU-72NB-220W-2x2, and 3 ALU-72NB-170W-5x5. With the retrofit, Beacon Products was able to reduce the installed wattage from 64,800 to 10,162— the aforementioned 75% reduction in energy consumption.

Whether pole mounted, wall mounted or base plate mounted, Beacon Product’s Alpha LED Floods eliminate light spill and light trespass, making them an ideal instrument for lighting commercial facilities in residential and urban settings. Additionally, the Alpha can be specified for aiming either below horizontal or above horizontal, and the 6 standard NEMA beam spread options allow you to place light wherever you want it.

The Beacon Products installation has moved the Georgia-Pacific Center, a LEED® Silver certified building, significantly closer to its goal of reducing energy consumption by 20% by 2020.
